MOM: THE QUEEN OF OUR HEARTS

LET'S CELEBRATE MOM EVERYDAY!

"A mother's arms are more comforting then anyone else's" ~Princess Diana

Mother's Day is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate mom than by throwing a brunch, a dinner, a cocktail party, a celebration big or small in her very honour!
Mom's put up with a lot. Monday to Sunday. Sunrise to sunset. Their work load doesn't just end Friday at 5; they give it their all and bust it out until that inner clock tells them its quitting time, it's time for wine!

I have watched my girlfriends raise their little's and can attest to how awesome they make motherhood seem. The accomplishment alone deserves a toast!  Everyday I am surrounded by countless amazing mama's of all ages that all have one thing in common; they love their kids. Mother's Day allows us to love them right back 110% more.

Let's do something special for mom this year and treat her like the queen she is 365 days a year!

We hope you shower a mom this May 13th with the love she deserves! To give you a hand we planned out a simple brunch; from décor, to drinks, to festive appetizers; we have you covered!

DECORATE FOR MOM!

"Design to express, not to impress" ~ John Tanedo

This DIY floral display is super easy and looks stunning! Depending on how you go about doing this; there is the cardboard and glue gun way or the super creative and artsy way of creating your own letters by constructing 3D cut-outs. Many craft stores will carry the pre-cut letters in both wood or metal  which will make your life a tad simpler.

If you choose to go the more difficult route; after the letters have been constructed and hollowed out, they get filled with foam which the florals; fake or alive will stick into.  Another really easy way is to just trace out a letter on foam and cut it out and use that as the base. Glue and use anything that makes it resemble your mom; corks, ribbon, buttons, charms etc.  There are so many creative options for these floral letters! You can simply do a "mom" or you can do her first initial. Displaying it on the dinner table as an arrangement would be a gorgeous addition to your brunch!

The images below from JULIE'S CORNER are beautiful and easy to recreate for yourself! Let your creative juices flow!

Along with every great meal is the meal's primary accessory; the napkin. For some reason we love our napkins and this cute DIY is perfect for dad and the kids to do for mom! This craft doesn't require you to break the bank! Walk over to your refrigerator- open the produce drawer and take out the celery. Make a quick snack for the kids and keep the end; the part that would usually get tossed. Fill a tray with paint, and use the celery end as a stamp. Stamp napkins; paper or cloth, place cards and let your colourful imagination take over! Let them dry and use them for your brunch place settings.

CREATING A MENU WORTHY OF MOM

"Hard work should be rewarded by good food" ~Ken Follett

Food - it's what brings the masses together! Every Sunday my husband and I go to my mother-in-laws for family dinner. She goes all out with appetizers and a meal planned specifically in mind for her kids. Making mom her favourite meal, snack for Mother's Day or the ever desired breakfast in bed is a no brainer! Lets take this creative brunch to the next level!  Here are some more fun DIY ideas for the whole family!

The Calla Lily- a simple yet eye appealing appetizer. Easy to make! All you need are white cheese slices/small pita rounds or wraps, cream cheese; plain or herbed, scallions/ green onions for the stems and thinly cut carrots.

Cherry Tomato Tulips- an edible bouquet to blow mom away! Visit recipe HERE

Deviled Egg Tulips- A similar design concept to the cherry tomato tulip in regards to the cuts you will make to create the tulip and using the egg's yolk as the filler and not cheese

Meat and Cheese Floral Arrangement- there is no right or wrong way do do this! Roll meats and cheese until they resemble a floral arrangement. Use olives for the flowers centers, and mix in lettuces, parsley and other leafy tools to create the appearance of petals and stems

Moms are our safety nets. They love us when no one else will, they comfort, console and in time end up being more of a friend to us than authority. Each one of us has a different story or relationship with mom. Cherish your time, accept the guidance she shows you, and willingly take the help and support she offers you through life when times are tough.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you moms out there! Fur- mama's, new mothers, wives , grandmothers, aunts, sisters and daughters!

DIY Christmas Trends and Decor

DIY Christmas Trends and Decor

Dust off those stockings and reindeer, because Christmas is right around the corner! Here are some easy, but festive DIY tricks that will transform your home into a Christmas Wonderland.

Cotton Trees and Jackalopes

This may seem like an unlikely pair, but both cotton trees and jackalopes are one of the hottest trends this Christmas. Fill your home with these magical creatures that are part jackrabbit and antelope, and are sure to spread some of that holiday spirit. Also, cotton trees may be a new take on the traditional pine, but we can't help but love the way the neutral colours compliment the greenery.

Let the Countdown begin!

Start off the Christmas season with these fun and interactive advent calendars made from simple craft supplies. Not to mention, this is a great activity to do with the kids. All you need are mini buckets or boxes from your local craft store, and the rest is up to your imagination. You can decorate them with ribbon and bells, or for a more polished look try sticking to a colour scheme such as the traditional Christmas colours or a twist of silver and gold, with a touch of blue.

Cheery Christmas Centrepieces

This Christmas season mix it up with fruit centrepieces combined with rosemary or thyme. Add walnuts or any type of sliced fruit surrounded with layers of cranberries, to a vase with a candle. Or for a more unique display, try floating these items in a mason jar filled with water, and complete the look with some festive garland and trees. It is the perfect decoration to add a pop of colour to your dining area and fill your home with an exotic aroma! Click the video down below for a tutorial on how to make both of these Christmas centrepieces.

Please, Have a Seat...

Leave your guests awestruck with these beautiful table settings. Give your dining room a cozy by-the-fireplace look, with plaid and tartan designs used on either table runners or blankets. If that's not your style, try something a bit more simple and elegant, like a White Christmas theme of white accented with gold place settings, complete with charming gingerbread figures. This year, it's out with the old colour scheme, with a blend of a variety of more untraditional hues like lime green and purple to add a burst of colour to your table.

Veuve Clicquot Event - Langdon Hall - Cambridge, ON

Langdon Hall, pool party and cocktails. What's not to love!?

It's not everyday that you are invited to a Veuve Clicquot pool party. We were so happy when Langdon Hall asked us to help with the lounge areas, lighting and DJ for this event. Plus, I got to attend this as a guest too, which was pretty spectacular!

The Cocktails - Veuve Clicquot Rich

Veuve Clicquot Rich at Langdon Hall

Why Veuve Clicquot Rich?

Veuve Rich was specifically designed for mixing. It's high sugar content, brings sweetness to a mixed drink, taking away the need for simple syrups or other sweeteners. But don't believe me, go to Langdon Hall and ask their sommelier, Faye all about it!

Now, without further ado, the drink list:

The ACTUAL Veuve Cocktails

1. Easy Pour Wine Bar - Jonny Kirwin

Easy Pour - Langdon Hall Veuve Pool Party

*This cocktail was delicious. Jonny spent days making the concentrated juice that went into this and it really showed. The Jasmine was a lovely touch and the drink was super refreshing!

Drink Name: Rags to Riches

Ingredients: Veuve Clicquot Rich, Watermelon, Pomegranate, Lemongrass, Jasmine Tea, Fresh Basil, Lime Juice

2. Black Dog - Lucas Frawley

Langdon Hall Cambridge Events

*Rose water really made this cocktail special for me. There's something about the floral aroma that I really love. Plus, it doesn't get much more luxurious than sipping on a rose petal drink beside the pool at Langdon Hall.

Drink Name: The Marrakech

Ingredients: Veuve Clicquot Rich, Cassis Monna & Filles, Mighty Leaf Organic Mint Melange Tea, Rose Water, Fresh Mint & Black Berry, Rose Petals

3. Langdon Hall - Aaron Hatchell

Langdon Hall Pool

*Super refreshing and light. I loved the cranberry ice cubes in this drink. As the cubes melted, the mint came to life and made the drink even more interesting!

Drink Name: Veuve2

Ingredients: Veuve Clicquot Rich, Hibiscus, Wild Cranberry Ice Cubes with Mint, Shaved Cucumber

4. Red House

Lime and Veuve Cocktail

*I didn't end up getting the name of the drink for red house. It was the first one I had and I was so excited to be there that I missed it! It was a savory cocktail, which was such a treat!*

Ingredients: Veuve Clicquot Rich, Organic Thai Basil, Curry Oil, Dehydrated Lime Wedge

The Langdon Hall Pool Atmosphere

I loved everything about this event. The music was pumping (thanks to our very own Kyle Priestley), the weather cooperated, the guests were having a great time, the food and service by Langdon was spectacular. There really was nothing more you could have asked for!

Take a look at the photos below:

Plus, they were giving out Veuve Clicquot Rich sunglasses and I got to wear orange! Cheers everyone! Hopefully we'll get to do this again soon!

PS...notice how my hair is getting curly here. Oh the summer heat! You curly haired ladies and gents know how I feel!
